The WheelHouse crew provided and tuned up an additional 12 bikes for the final phase of the SOICS Pilot-Project.
This Pilot-Project to provide migrant farmworkers with bikes was conceived by the South Okanagan Immigrant and Community Services (SOICS) and created to increase the farmers mobility and access to the farms and the community.
The WheelHouse was brought on board to:
WheelHouse provided 12 bikes
Complete a mechanical service and needed repairs on all 21 bikes
to ensure they are safe, durable, and effective modes of transportation for the farmworkers.
Provide an in-service to the Farmers on bike maintenance skills, bike fit and function, and road safety.
This Pilot-Project enabled the WheelHouse to Train its first-ever Teen Mechanic!!!! Very Exciting.
This teenager (JD) was a great support and asset to the WheelHouse team this summer. He came and supported the Penticton’s Farmers Market every Saturday possible and he was always keen to learn something new about his bike, the bikes we repaired together for this project, and building his communication and problem solving skills.
A BIG thank you to SOICS and JD for helping the WheelHouse support this program in our community.
